Is it safe? Can my baby choke?

The pouch is what makes it safe. Juice and soft pulp come through the tiny holes as your baby chews, but a frozen piece can't come out whole the holes are far smaller than the piece. Stay with your baby the whole time, and check the pouch for tears before each use.

Is the silicone safe?

Food-grade silicone, BPA free. Sterilise the pouch before first use, and give everything a wash before the first time.

How do I clean it?

The pouch lifts off the lid completely, so nothing stays trapped inside. Rinse it right after use so pulp doesn't dry in, then wash by hand or in the dishwasher. The brush gets between the bumps on the plate.

Is this better than teething gel?

It's different. Gels numb briefly but many paediatricians advise against numbing agents for babies, and you can't use them all day. This gives cold, safe pressure and real food instead, and you can hand it over as often as your baby wants it. Ask your pediatricians if you're unsure

How does the fruit get out and how does it not?

The pouch is soft with small holes. Chewing pushes juice and soft pulp through, a little at a time. A frozen piece can't slip out whole because the holes are far smaller than the piece.

What exactly comes in the kit?

A ceramic grater plate with a cleaning brush, a silicone lollipop mould with 10 cavities, and a silicone fruit nibbler with a clip-on pouch.

How do I use it?

Grate fruit on the plate, pour it into the mould, freeze overnight, then drop one frozen pop into the nibbler pouch and hand it over. Two minutes on a Sunday covers the week.

How long do the frozen pops keep?

About a month in the freezer in a sealed bag or box. Label it with the date and the fruit. Don't thaw and refreeze that's why the cavities are small.

My mother-in-law says the baby is too small for this.

It's a fair worry. The pouch exists precisely because a six-month-old can't manage a piece of fruit safely — the holes let them taste it without a piece coming loose. Show her the pouch and let her squeeze it.
